Alvin D. Loving Junior Faculty Initiative

A member of the founding faculty of the Flint campus, Dr. Alvin D. Loving had the distinction of being the first tenured minority faculty member on this campus. This junior faculty program was established in his name to recognize his pioneering efforts.

Of special concern to UM-Flint is the progress of minority faculty members on the tenure track. Minority faculty are repeatedly called upon by students for counseling and to serve as role models and by the administration to serve on committees. In recognition of the unusual service demands placed on junior minority faculty, UM-Flint has established the Alvin D. Loving Junior Faculty Initiative to provide released time for junior minority faculty members who have demonstrated high potential of professional advancement and continued development at UM-Flint. The successful candidate will be appointed by the Provost with the consent of the Chancellor as the Alvin D. Loving Junior Faculty for one year with released time of one three-credit-hour course per semester. No more than one appointment as the Alvin D. Loving Junior Faculty is available.
