Scholarly or Creative Achievement Award

The award for scholarly or creative achievement is available to recognize outstanding faculty performance at UM-Flint. Carrying a stipend of $1,000, this award may be made to full-time lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors, or full professors. This honor need not be awarded every year.

Eligibility

Full-time faculty members who have been with the University for a minimum of three years are eligible to be nominated.

An individual would normally be excluded from consideration for this award for any of the following reasons:

  • He/she holds a continuing administrative or non-teaching appointment of one third or more.
  • He/she holds an administrative appointment above the level of department chair.
  • He/she is the David M. French Professor.
  • He/she is a current member of the SASE.
  • He/she has received this award within the past five years.

Nominations

Nominations may be made by faculty, staff, or students and should be submitted to the Chair of the SASE Committee, c/o Provost's Office, 229 University Pavilion. The letter of nomination is due on January 20, 2006. Other supporting documents must be submitted on February 24, 2006.
 

Required Supporting Documentation (in addition the letter from the nominator)

  • Nominee's vita.
  • Letter of support from appropriate department chair (dean in the case of SOM, director in the case of SHPS).
  • Brief statement about nominee's academic areas of interest and expertise.
  • Documentation addressing the nature of the work performed to date and its quality. (Include whether books/articles/papers/performances have been refereed/reviewed/referenced; comment on the role of the nominee in co-authored papers; comment on how the nominee's work is viewed within the discipline.)
  • Documentation addressing the quality of the journals in which articles were published.
  • Documentation of professional works created and presented at workshops.
  • Evidence of scholarly activities not included above.
  • If books were published, copies of published reviews of these books.
  • A copy of each book written (if applicable).
  • Up to five representative articles or other works published or completed.
  • Up to three letters from peer reviewers (internal or external) that address the scholarly activity of the nominee.
