Dorothea Wyatt
Award (Staff in even-numbered
years, faculty in odd-numbered
years) A member of the founding
faculty of the Flint campus, Dr.
Dorothea Wyatt served as Chair of
the Department of History, Secretary
to the Faculty, and Counselor to
Women. Prior to her retirement in
1975, she was involved in numerous
organizations within the Flint
community. This award, which carries
a stipend of $1,000, was established
in her honor. The award need not be
given every year. In even-numbered
years, a staff member is eligible to
receive this award, and in
odd-numbered years a faculty member
is eligible.
Eligibility
In odd-numbered years, women
faculty members who have been with
the University for a minimum of
three years are eligible for
nomination. In even-numbered years,
female staff members who have been
with the University for a minimum of
three years are eligible for
nomination. Candidates should
possess some or all of the following
qualifications:
- Role model for women, based
on professional accomplishments
and contributions to the Flint
campus or the external
community.
- Leadership role in promoting
equity and opportunities for
women.
- Involvement in the creation
or implementation of programs to
better the status of women.
In odd-numbered years, a faculty
member would normally be excluded
from consideration for this award
for any of the following reasons:
- She holds a continuing
administrative or non-teaching
appointment of one third or
more.
- She holds an administrative
appointment above the level of
department chair.
- She is the David M. French
Professor.
- She is a current member of
the SASE.
- She has received this award
within the past five years.
Nominations
Nominations may be made by
faculty, staff, or students. In
odd-numbered years, nominations
should be submitted to the Chair of
the SASE Committee, c/o Provost's
Office, 229 University Pavilion. The
deadline in these years is the same
as for the other faculty awards. In
even-numbered years, nominations
should be submitted to the Director
of the Women's Educational Center (WEC)
359 UCEN. In these years, the award
will be presented during Women's
History Month. The letter of
nomination is due on January
20, 2006. The deadline for
all other supporting documents is
February 24, 2006.
Required Supporting
Documentation (in addition to
letter from nominator)
- Nominee's vita.
- Letter of support from
appropriate department chair
(dean in the case of SOM,
director in the case of SHPS) or
supervisor.
- Evidence that candidate has
served as role model for women,
based on professional
accomplishments and
contributions to the Flint
campus or the external
community.
- Evidence of leadership role
in promoting equity and
opportunities for women.
- Evidence of involvement in
the creation or implementation
of programs to better the status
of women.
- Up to five letters of
support.
